Château Simone Palette Red Rhone Blend 2013

$60

Simone Rouge is largely based on Grenache and Mourvedre but is spiced up with Cinsault andamp; Syrah as well as the rare indigenous varieties Castet, Manosquin, Thandeacute;oulier, Tibouren, and Picpoul Noir, among others. Again, north-facing vines, planted over limestone, and average 50 years, with many well over 100. The grapes for the red are destemmed and, just like the white, co-fermented with native yeasts in large foudres. The wine stays there for 18 months and is eventually transferred to neutral barrels for another year of rest before bottling. The '13 Rouge is suave, full-fruited and balanced, an impressive encounter already. andnbsp;

Wow This is a special and cool wine! This is a benchmark wine for my wine journey: the most I've ever payed (gambled) on a wine I've never previously tried. This wine is quite bretty on the nose but really changes on the palate. I really didn't know how to describe it. Barnyard at first and then it morphs into a berry salad... The more I drank it the more I fell in love. It's such a deceptively simple yet amazing wine. Really a gem! So glad I found this lovely bottle. Definitely try this! It's worth what you pay for it!

Serious stuffing here - acid, minerals and plenty of red fruit and layers of goodness over the course of the evening.
