Medium body, quite masculine, lead pencil, blackberries and cedar wood. Close to perfect. Many years left.

I mean in terms of sheer excellence, amazing. Ex-Chateau condition.

2000 opened Mar 2023. Tar and tobacco on the nose. Intense red fruit on the front. Medium tannic balance. The tar and tobacco flavors return on the mid palate. Soft finish with light mineral notes. Disappointing for the insane amount of money I spent on this bottle. But it’s worth trying a premier grand cru from an excellent vintage at least once in one’s life. Update: 1 hour after decanting the fruit faded. The tannins unwound, but the annoying tar flavor becomes dominant. My mom’s comment was: “it starts as an undistinguished bottle of wine, and it became more undistinguished as it opened up.” Have to agree with her. Oh well. OTOH, I feel tremendously sophisticated being able to sneer at a premier grand cru from from one of the best vintages in recent memory. “Bah! This is crap! Take that bottle back!”;-)

Brown stone appearance. Very herbal, tobacco, leather. Black currant fruitcharacter emerges hours later. Balanced acid, bitter mid palate, light astringency on finish. Grateful to have experienced.

This same friend brought an “interim” bottle while we decanted the latour. A 2000 Margaux split. We didn’t decant just opened and poured- hey don’t argue when it ain’t your wine- it was epic. If I owned this bottle I’m not sure I could keep my hands off of it. I’m sure it will last years but this thing was in a perfect spot. All the red and dark fruit you could want with power and finesse in balance. Yes I’m a very lucky man
