Monthly WTF guys blind tasting group. This month was our annual, and famed, Left Bank vs Right Bank theme. All wines served blind as usual. Started off with a Rosé and a champagne. Great night. I think this was my WOTN. It was ripe, showing smoked meat, roasted plum and baked blackberry pie aromatics. Full bodied, smooth, balanced between fruit and savory notes. Seems to be open for business now. I called this ‘08 Left Bank.

Pleasant but young Malescot-St. Exupery. Rich, concentrated, fruit driven, earthy and a tad wild too. But still so young. Have always thought that this was a great QPR from Margaux and yes it is!

Density and power defined, but give this time as it should shine when the baby fat melts away!

Checking in on the hyped 09 vintage. 2 hour decant(fine/cloudy sediment). An astonishing inky dark crimson color. On the nose: Beautiful Margaux nose of ripe berries, floral, wet forest floor, little stewed meat, leather, creme de cassis, and vanilla. Taste: smooth, rich, elegant, brooding wine with blackberry, cassis, espresso, graphite, and a long smokey spice finish. Some slight tannins still present, but drinks well with the decant. Will give it a few more years for my next bottle.

Elegant, big dark berry Margaux magic. Very nicely defined texture and soft cocoa tannins. Full bodied and long finish

Superb cellar selection from last night. Plenty of sediment but retains color intensity. Aromas of concentrated and sappy blue and black fruits. Some fresh leather and cedar. Really elegant, powerfully silky on the palate which picks up red currant and some ripe plum. Very clean.

Medium body with a fruity and somewhat exotic initial nose that blows off after a bit. Rather closed after 2+ hours of air but seems like some potential buried in there as it’s nicely balanced. Will check back in 5 and then at 10 yrs.
