2nd label of the Second Growth from St. Estephe, Cos de Estornel. Most certainly a supurb example of a second label from a highly recognized producer. It is still way young, so it needed ample time to breathe - about 4 hours. The wine is concentrated and dark crimson in color. The nose is very inviting: it smells as if I am in a sort of man cave, full of old leather furnishings and cigar boxes in the humidor in the back, and fresh spring air blowing the faint smell of a rocky dust from a gravel road, with freshly baked blackberry pie on the counter. The pallet exhibits firm structure, and notes of black plums, tobacco, iron-y minerality, anise, and a lingering finish of stewed berries and smoked dark chocolate. This is a cellar piece in need of proper age. Its rustic grit and firm hold will soften with many more years. Hold and drink 2020-2035. Cheers! $69.99

Paired perfectly with a grilled strip steak. Decanted for 2 hrs. Red fruits, tobacco, currant, and a touch of licorice. Ideally still needs 3 to 5 yrs to come together more and for the tannins to integrate further.

Garnet with slightly lighter garnet rim, dried cherry and cedar nose with a little bit of funky barnyard at the end, smooth full palate with refined tannin and long finish. Drinks like a wine twice it's price.

Very nice after 7yrs in the bottle, and while not rough at all you could tell it would get even better with another 5-10.

Delicious. Lots of earthy notes with oak and some berries.

This was big and brawny even for a second wine.
