Switzerland might be outside your normal wine rotation, but this bottle is a nice reminder of the benefits of moving a little beyond your comfort zone. This wine is 100% Heida-Paien, which is the local name for the grape known as Savagnin in the Jura. The wine shares some of the briny, mineral character of Jurassic Savagnin but is made in a non-oxidative style. The historic site known as Les Bernunes gives this wine uncommon depth complexity and makes for a wine you'll be thinking about long after your last sip. andnbsp;

The Swiss name for the varietal in this little gem is “Heida”. As the story goes there’s a strong probability that as the vines were shared, passed and re-planted around the Swiss region decades ago, what began as Traminer evolved into what I’ve got under my nose. Lush pear and stone lead the way to a truly remarkably smooth and voluptuous palate. Meat on its bones, and in all the right, graceful ways. The palate leads (and holds) through the lengthy finish that’s balanced beautifully between a sort of creamy presence and juicy acidity. #notcheapbutwortheverypenny
