A top wine from notable winemaking duo Rodri Mendez (Forjas de Salnes) and local Bierzo wunderkind, Raul Perez. This 'clos' is in the Ribeira Sacra sub-zone of Chantada, a cooler area marked by its Atlantic influences and granitic soils. From primarily Mencia with some Merenzao (aka Trousseau), Alicante Bouschet and Cainoandnbsp;added in for good measure, this wine is 100% whole cluster fermented in large foudres and aged in neutral barrels. Bright and energetic with an appealing savory, animal side.

A project of Raul Perez. Old vines Mencía and 3 other indigenous varieties. Violets and cherry on the nose. Palate dominated by typical iron/blood flavor of Mencía with red fruit. Stony backbone with softer tannins. Long finish. Young but outstanding potential. This guy is a serious vintner.
