Paolo Veglio is as dedicated and hard working as any producer you'll come across in Piedmont. You're more likely to find him on a tractor patrolling his vines in the Roccalini vineyard than anywhere else in the world. He has been a fixture of the Piemonte landscape since he started working the land at 14 years old. Although his family have been grape growers in Barbaresco for a very long time, they were selling their grapes to their more famous neighbors like Giacosa before Paolo began making wine with the help of his mother in 2004. Thisandnbsp;Barbaresco Roccalini is Nebbiolo that whispers quietly of the soul of the Langhe. You hear of the most pure expressions of the grape being marked by their representation of tar andamp; roses, and this wine shows both qualities in spades and in perfect harmony. Like the wines of Domaine Simon Bize in Burgundy that we treasure so much, it is a shining example of refined rusticity. He's the only producer to make a single vineyard Roccalini, so it's an especially unique wine. It's so pretty and balanced that it's great fun to drink now with a decant but it's going to be frighteningly delicious with another 5-10+ years in the bottle.

Popped and poured. This is a hedonistic Barbaresco that's not shy about the fact it's brought more than a decent amount of fruit to the party. Quite a bit different than the Ferrando Carema we also opened tonight. That being said, it's very satisfying with plenty of character to back up the fruit. This is one of those wines that nerds and casual wine drinkers can both get into. Drink now though 2028.

Pretty wine, everything you would want, subdued yet tannic, acidcly balanced, bright red fruit,
