Carcavelos is a rare dessert wine made just west of Lisbon in Portugual in a similar mold to Madiera.andnbsp; The appellation now covers a mere 25 hectares in which there is only a single active producer. Quinta dos Pesos was a boutique producer of Carcavelos who rarely commercialized the wines outside of Portugal and eventually ceased operation in 2005.andnbsp; The current bottlings we have on offer were discovered and purchased from barrel by an American importer in the past few years.andnbsp; The 1991 is excellent, showing an uncanny balance of sweetness and acidity, with dried fruit, leather, candied lemon, and just a hint of spice. Perfect for desserts like Crandegrave;me Brulee!
