Juan Antonio Ponce may be most famous for his work with the elusive Bobal grape, but it was his work with the equally rare Moravia Agriaandnbsp;variety that really caught us by surprise. Itand#39;s been a while since we tasted a sub-$20 red that grabbed us with such force on first sip. This cuvandeacute;e is about 80% Moravia Agria with 20% Garnacha blended in. The wine shows great earthiness and a pleasant rusticity, but itand#39;s balanced by some bright and juicy red fruits, brisk acidity and a wildly unique herbaceous streak. Itand#39;s a hard one to put down and will improve markedly over a few hours or even a few days.
