Benoît Déhu Cuvée de "La Rue des Noyers" Champagne Pinot Meunier 2014

$99.99

At his namesake domaine, Benoit Dandeacute;hu is producing some of the purest and most expressive Meunier in all of Champagne. Benoit owns a single vineyard of less than 2 hectares, La Rue des Noyers, located in the village of Fossoy in the Valandeacute;e de la Marne. His bottles represent Champagne pored over to the finest detail, from his meticulous biodynamic farming to his fermentation andamp; aging in large barrels made from trees that grow next to his vineyards. Meunier is has been historically regarded as a workhorse grape in Champagne, third fiddle to the more noble Pinot Noir andamp; Chardonnay. When it is handled with as much care and precision as Dandeacute;hu, though, it can provide for wines that are extraordinarily generous, expressive and fine. This is full but lively and a perfect wine to make believers of anyone who feels Champagne is just a simple cocktail wine.

This had the complexity of a top-rate white burg. The closest I think would be a Meursault as this has a richness from the Meunière that Puligny does not. At the same time this had ripping minerality. This 2014 disgorgement showed what champagne has the potential to be.
