The Benanti family were trailblazers in producing single vineyard wines on the slopes of Mount Etna, including bottling Rovittello as early as 1990 during their first commercial vintage.andnbsp; Rovittello is hewn from head-trained vineyards at 750m above sea level in the contrada of Dafara Galluzzo on the north face of the Volcano.andnbsp; Typically harvested almost one month after the fruit for Serra della Contessa, Rovittello is always more reserved and steelier than the other Benanti Reds.andnbsp; It, nevertheless, always captures the pure fruit of so typical of Etna Rosso, aging beautifully for a decade or more.andnbsp; The 2014 vintage was especially successful in Sicily (unlike many other parts of Italy) and the 2014 Rovittello is sure to delight.andnbsp; Hand harvested, fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel, and aged in 15 HL French oak for 24 months.

Had this at the Wunderbar in Taormina!!! Simply Wunderful!!!! Dark cherry, plum, sweet tabbacco, licorice, and earthy. A must try!!!

Nerello Mascalese, light in colour, very elegant. In a very good spot right now. Liked it a lot, especially compared to previous bottles. Where the Monte Serra is like hip hop dancing, this Rovittello is more like classical ballet

Like a volcanic barbera. These can be tannic but five years of bottle age has smoothed the edges somewhat. Not that giving of the bat but evolves with charcoal, lava stones, spices and green olives.
