Benanti Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese 2017

$24.99

Benantiand#39;s entry level Etna Rosso is a lovely bottling from one of the most dramatic terroirs in Italy. 80% Nerello Mascalese andamp; 20% Nerello Cappuccio from vineyards on Mt. Etna ranging ranging from 1500 to 2700 ft in elevation. The soil is sandy, volcanic and rich in minerals. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then 20% is aged in wood. Juicy black cherry, spice and minerals all framed by firm yet refined tannins.

Got more and more dry as I was drinking it.

An absolute BEST BUY. Don’t let its light red and ruby color full you. This wine packs a flavorful punch with classic Etna volcanic mineral with a ripe cherry core with roasted sage brush, rosemary and thyme with a dried floral almost potpourri-like lift.

I like this wine. Cherry, dried herbs. Found this in a little wine shop in Wrigleyville.

2017. Tobacco and leather. Volcanic soil, sour cherry, and a little plum. Lots of tannin but also a long fairly elegant finish. It’s not my thing but I can see what folks like it. I bet it will be an excellent wine in 5-10 years.
