Benanti Etna Bianco Carricante 2016

$26.99

100% Carricante from high altitude albarello (andldquo;little treeandrdquo;) trained vines. Powerful and racy with hints of white flowers and honeydew melon all with a mouth-watering saline finish. Carricante is indigenous to Etna and this is a perfect wine to get acquainted with this noble varietal.

Fond of these wines, although this bottling is becoming rather expensive. Not much complexity.

Crushes rocks, white peach, green almond, fennel fronds, lemon zest and blossoms. Saline, slight smokiness, very mineral. Can taste the sun but feel the elevation of the vineyard, square and structural, not plush or round or easy to understand. Sang with white pizzas

This is a wine my wife bought me when she was not my wife. Just a mere girlfriend. Newly minted. It’s survived four moves and five homes. 20 seasons. The color has definitely warmed up a bit. Flourishes of golden swirls. Smells more like a Chardonnay than a caricante. Notes of honey and hazelnut. Still a line of minerality throughout. Citrus and orange peel. But the fruits have lightened and turned into something more nuanced and nutty. Beautiful and worth sitting on for 7 years and 10 years from the harvest.

Austere and stony/volcanic, with a citrusy acidity. Pairs well with light seafood.

Bottle brought back from Sicily. Bit of bitterness hinting lime, lemon zest but also flavours of stone fruits. Flinty mineral reminds the volcanic soil of this region. Short finish, good food wine.
