Roberto Conterno, the legendary Barolo producer, purchased the historic Nervi property in early 2018 after serving as a consulting oenoligist for several vintages.andnbsp;Given that Conterno is perhaps the most important name in Italian wine, it's hard not to read this acquisition as a marquee moment for the appellation. Nervi has been producing top notch Gattinara for many years now, so we're not expecting dramatic changes in the character of the wines here, but it's pretty clear that with Conterno's investment and expertise, there will be a significant change in their sheer class. Having recently tasted the 2015 bottling, which he consulted on, we can attest that the wines are well on their way to stardom. The property did not make any of their single vineyard wines in and#39;15, so all of the fruit that would normally go into those bottlingsandnbsp;was used in the blend for this particularly special example.andnbsp; A blend of grapes harvested from the Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglie, and Casacceandnbsp;vineyards, this wine is aged for 30 months in large oak casks. This is a powerful example from a warm vintage that retains all of the finely etched character reserved for the best northern Nebbiolo. Itand#39;s hard not to recognize its immediate beauty but itand#39;s clear this has much more to give over the coming years.

Classic Nebbiolo nose but emphasizes more on rose petals and dried red fruits. Light, ethereal on the palate, very easy drinking and soft.

Strangely upon opening quite an oaky nose - blew off but wine felt a tad “hot” despite 13,5% alcohol! Enjoyable balance though between the power and finesse of Nebbiolo!

Mushroom, forest floor, sour and dried cranberry, stewed strawberry, sun dried tomatoes, mint, violet and lavender. Elevated acidity and fine tannins. Medium+ body. Medium+ finish and intensity.

Give it 5 hours to open, and it will be everything you expect from a Roberto Conterno wine. I’m buying every bottle I can get my hands on. First vintage Nervi-Conterno after the 2018 acquisition. Molsino and Valferana single vineyards all added into the normale this vintage.
