This Portuguese Port is always enjoyable. Showing black fruits with chocolate notes and alcohol. Nice tangy finish with soft tannins. I had it all by itself as a dessert. Delicious and yummy. 20% alcohol by volume. 89 points.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim. Sweet nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, black currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, spices, chocolates, mocha, coffee, cocoa, tobacco and black pepper. Full bodied and bold with medium plus acidity and long legs. Sweet on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cherry pie, figs, raisins, vanilla, oak, licorice, cloves, spices, alcohol, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, earth, peppercorn and coffee. Long sweet finish. This portogese Port is always enjoyable. Well balanced with nice complexity. Not too complex, but very enjoyable by itself. Showing a bit too much alcohol on the palate and better a bit chilled. I paired it with chocolate covered pomegranates. 20% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $20.

"Odedi"

Sweet fruity nose of blackberries, black plums, sweet cherries, licorice, vanilla, wood, alcohol, spices, chocolates, mocha, sweet carmel, cloves and peppercorn. Full bodied and bold with medium plus acidity and long legs. Sweet on the palate with blackberries, sweet plums, cherry pie, dried figs, tobacco, spices, wood, vanilla, cloves, dark coffee, chocolates, pencil lead and peppercorn. Long finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries. This port is always enjoyable. Not too complex but very tasty with nice balance. I paired it with brie cheese and fig jam. So yummy

Sipping Fine Wine

Fonseca Port was founded in 1822 and successive generations of the Guimaraens family have upheld the Company’s reputation. The Bin No. 27 was created over a century ago for family consumption, and only released commercially in 1972. Sits in large wood cats for 4 years. Rich texture, ripe fruit flavors of blackberry and cherry. Smooth with good balance on lingering finish ending with a sweet fruit character and some spicy notes. Consistent quality y/o/y. Can be consumed over a few weeks. Tasting Sample.

Stewed dark fruit on the nose continue through to the palate. Sweet finish. Lacking the wow factor for me. Drink now or cellar for another 10 years.

Fantastic port. Starts off sweet and then you start to taste some nice grippy tannins that cut through the sweetness and then real boozy, and a bit tannic and then back to sweet on the finish. Really nice balance and complexity.

This was pretty good; lifted nose of plum, boysenberry, blackberry, violets, baking spice, cinnamon and cacao powder. The wine has pleasant structure for a ruby and is a good wine for its style but hard to get excessively excited over.
