#AgedWineTuesday Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Beautiful nose of black fruits, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, espresso, chocolates, earth, light vegetables, tobacco leaf, eacaliptus, Indian spices and black pepper. Full-bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, black plums, light cedar, earth, herbs, light vanilla, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth, black tea and a touch of vegetables. Long spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This second wine from the great 2010 vintage in Bordeaux, is drinking gorgeously now. Nicely balanced with a great mouthfeel. Elegant with lots of fruits. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours in the decanter, when tannins show up. Changes every 20 minutes in the decanter. So nice to experience. I had this vintage 5 years ago and it is drinking better now. This 14 year old is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 to 10 years. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired nicely with dried meats. A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot. 14% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $90.

Cassis and fruit like Pauillac, but graphite and iron like Saint Estephe. On its upward trajectory. Can taste the ripeness of the vintage for sure.

Juicy, tobacco, leather. Sweet burst on the midpalate. Plenty of spice.

Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here's a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Bordeaux. Deep purple in color with a purplish rim. On the nose, black currants, plums, cherries, chocolates, wood, earth, vegetables, graphite, spices, bitter herbs, wet leaves, river rocks, peppercorn, tobacco, dark coffee and light bell pepper. Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, sweet strawberries, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, light vanilla, vegetables, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, wet leaves and earth. Long finish with fine-grained tannins and tangy cranberries. This is a delicious Cabernet blend from Bordeaux. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and great complexity. This great vintage is already enjoyable, although it could use some additional time to mature properly, 5 to 10 years. This Second Growth is good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (4 hours). Good by itself or with food. I paired it with smoked meats. Delicious and yummy. A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $75.

Château covers 170 acres separated from Château Lafite, along the southern edge, by a stream. A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon & 38% Merlot. Rich berry aromas with floral and spices, very pleasant. On the palate blueberry and wild berry flavors with licorice and toasty oak notes. Lingering rich finish on soft juicy tannins, drinking well and still has room to go. Very Nice second label!

2nd label of the Second Growth from St. Estephe, Cos de Estornel. Most certainly a supurb example of a second label from a highly recognized producer. It is still way young, so it needed ample time to breathe - about 4 hours. The wine is concentrated and dark crimson in color. The nose is very inviting: it smells as if I am in a sort of man cave, full of old leather furnishings and cigar boxes in the humidor in the back, and fresh spring air blowing the faint smell of a rocky dust from a gravel road, with freshly baked blackberry pie on the counter. The pallet exhibits firm structure, and notes of black plums, tobacco, iron-y minerality, anise, and a lingering finish of stewed berries and smoked dark chocolate. This is a cellar piece in need of proper age. Its rustic grit and firm hold will soften with many more years. Hold and drink 2020-2035. Cheers! $69.99
