Dark and intense plummy fruit. Violets and roses. Gloriously silky with great purity

At age 22, Palmer 2000 is finally in a great spot and unquestionably accessible, really popping after an hour in the decanter. It has an explosive nose showing layers of intense blackberry fruit, mocha, cigar box and a kiss of cedar and soil tones. The palate, while still showing some ripe tannins, is velvety and seductive with tremendous depth, balanced acids and massive length. Many fabulous years ahead for this beauty.

Wednesday Wine Committee from this past week. A fantastic hosting by @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds, 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind as usual. Possibly in its prime drinking window, and it is gorgeous. Everything about this screams high quality left bank Bordeaux (which is what I called it). It was beautifully perfumed with a mix of potpourri, dried black cherries, blackberries, graphite, saddle leather and herbs de Provence. Perfectly balanced on the palate with dark fruits enveloped in cedar and sweet pipe tobacco. There is a line of ripe purple fruits down the middle accompanied by dust and mocha which is just delicious.

And this is why I love Margaux. 2000 Palmer tasting perfect right now. Velvety texture, forest floor, and well-integrated red fruit. LOVE. #margaux #chateaupalmer #bordeau #sommlife #2000

One of the highlights of the Cabernet Tasting in May. Cabernet Sauvignon 53%/Merlot 47% from the great 2000 vintage. Gorgeous nose. Still restrained at 17 years. Mint aromas with the cassis. Gravelly persistent tannins.

Wasn't sure if I should pop this yet, but it was time to shine! Classic Bordeaux nose of spice and leather. Smooth tannins. Ready to drink now, but will likely wait at least a couple years to open my remaining bottles
