Montevertine Le Pergole Torte Sangiovese 2011

$399

The prestige wine of Montevertine is only produced in outstanding vintages. This ultimate wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months and then racked into small French oak (Allier) barrels for the final six month stage of its elevage. Since 1990, Le Pergole Torte has comprised the estate’s best parcels— Le Pergole Torte, rounded out by 35-year-old vines in Montevertine and 20-year-old vines in il Sodaccio—but it is first and foremost a nakedly mineral, staggeringly complex expression of pure Sangiovese grown in Radda’s high-altitude alberese soils. Vintage: 2011 Country: Italy Region: Tuscany Appellation: Toscana IGT Grape: Sangiovese Farming: Organic Drink: Now-2040

Pure and racy. Oak has subsided a bit over the past year.

A little muted compared to other bottles in the same year that I have had of this but still a very tasty treat.

Just a massive amount of smokey oak on this wine, but the fruit has a pedigree that shines through. Ultimately bright and racy, despite all the barrique.

The hands down winner of our lineup. Great acidity, chewy tannins and rich red fruit. Winner.

Tar, cherry, herb and baking spice. Fennel, violets. Phenomenal texture finishing with tight grain tannins. Love it.
