Bottled in 2018 and aged under cork sur latte (Laherte ages this cuvée the longest on the lees), the 2017 Champagne Millésime Empreintes Extra Brut is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay (a selection massale of his grandfather’s Muscat) and Pinot Noir. Pouring a bright pale yellow, it’s a fantastic expression from this challenged vintage, opening to attractive aromas that feel complete, with a mix of fresh candied tropical fruits, brioche nuance and the fresh grape ripeness of Pinot Noir. Medium-bodied and zesty with citrus and mouthwatering chalky earth, it’s lively on the palate, with a pinpoint mousse, a long finish, and a hint of custardy texture to balance it out.
