Fedellos Do Couto Bastarda Merenzao 2021

$49

A delicate and ethereal Trousseau, inspired by the prolific cuvées from Ganevat, the Jura producer. Fruit comes from two different zones in the Ribeira Sacra, with the majority being Trousseau, and around 10% Brancellao and Caiño in the mix. Whole bunch fermented with a delicate touch, and matured in French oak for seven months. The resulting wine is complex and beautifully perfumed, and very approachable after a year in bottle. It’s a layered, multidimensional fine wine with real poise. Vintage: 2021 Country: Spain Region: Galicia Appellation: Ribeira Sacra Grapes: Trousseau, Brancellao, Caino Farming: Organic Drink: Now-2028

Another year, another banging Bastarda! A true red wine kabinett. Light-footed, complex, and super energetic. The nose was so floral and spicy. I got notes of roses, pepper, curry leaves, cloves, sour cherries, and hints of balasmic character. The palate was like drinking salty pomegranate and cherry juice, with hints of dried herbs. Super light, yet intense. Finishes very chalky and long. I love this wine a lot, but there were others on the table that laughed at it. One for the enthusiasts. Their loss, my win. Haha.

Light bodied. Packed with a ton of flavor. I have loved everything from this producer. Mint and wet gravel to go along with beautiful red fruit.

Very pale ruby , watery rim . Quite light floral , sour cherry and sea breeze notes , wet stones . On the palate quite lean and high acid with a saline kick on the finish . Light red cherry notes , red currant , raspberry also. Very light tannins , behaves more like a rosé or white than a red really . Ok length with a stony edge . I presume this is best drunk now whilst the fruit is fresh, unsure how this would age . Now and over the next 2-3 years ? Certainly thought provoking ..
