The Mayard is a classic Châteauneuf blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault and, again, is one of the most beautifully restrained, supple, ethereal and subtly complex wines from Châteauneuf that doesn't say 'Rayas' on the label that you'll ever encounter. Vintage: 2023 Country: France Region: Southern Rhône Appellation: Châteauneuf du Pape Grapes: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault Farming: Organic, Biodynamic Drink: Now-2035
"Odedi"
Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fresh red berries on the nose with lots of wild flowers notes. Medium in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with raspberries, fresh picked cherries, light oak, spices, chocolates and black pepper. Medium finish with fine grained tannins and raspberries. This Grenache based blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape is very young, but already enjoyable even by itself. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Precise, and lighter than I expected. Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Spicy and elegant. Easy drinking and very fresh tasting. Alcohol is nicely integrated. A blend 80% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 10% Mourvedre. Aged in large oak barrels and concrete vats for 18 months. A very small production. 15% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $75.
