The 2019 Barolo Bricco Boschis is an absolutely gorgeous wine that needs plenty of air to open. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, rose petal, cinnamon, star anise and mint all grace this mid-weight, wonderfully expressive Barolo. It has been some years since I have tasted a Cavallotto Barolo with this kind of translucent old-school classicism. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Compared to 2018, vintage 2019 featured darker fruit profile (2018 is more red fruited): blackberry, dark cherry, darker cranberry. More purple flowers as well - lavender and violet. IMO more pronounced herbal quality. Rather closed too. Highly tannic unsurprisingly. Def more brooding than 2018.

Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Best on Day 3. The 2019 Cavallotto Barolo “Bricco Boschis” pours a deep garnet with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with super expressive of fresh red and dark fruits: Montmorency cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, blackberries and lingonberries. There is also some balsamic notes, cedar box, roses, tar, green herbs and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with monumental tannins that seemed to build each day. Acid is medium++. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is forever long. Alcohol is medium+. This is a beautiful wine with a very, very long life ahead. The fruit is so gorgeous, so fresh at this stage. Drink now with the patience of a saint otherwise best after 2029 and enjoy through 2069+. Bottle No. 05586

Other ratings called this “closed” which I completely agree with. The dense flavors took forever to open up. I popped it at noon for a 7:30p dinner of chick pea and potato pasta, and it was still developing. Highly tannic, but so layered if you have the patience. Darker fruits, yet still some tart red cherry, lavender, rose petals, and ashy dryness. Complex, classic Barolo (from my limited experience). I’ll save my second bottle to see how it develops.
