Great Champagne, just not as complex as I would expect for the price point. Enjoyed but wouldn’t buy again.

Somewhat of an outlier in the world of serious Champagne, Moussé Fils predominately works with Pinot Meunier which makes up the overwhelming majority of their holdings. This example, “Les Vignes de Mon Village” happens to be 100% Pinot Meunier from Cuisles bottled with zero dosage and fermented in stainless steel (as is most of their wines). One other rather interesting aspect of this particular designation is that it’s bottled and aged with a cork enclosure, as opposed to a crown cap. In the glass, it presents as a pail straw color with a persistent mousse. The nose displayed pink apple, squished raspberries, red flowers and an autolytic note that reminded me of wet chalk. On the palate, lemons, pears, strawberry, chalk and…on the finish, which is quite long and very dry, there’s lime. Fabulous acid. A lovely Champagne. Moussé Fils is a producer that should be on everyone’s radar. Disgorged January 31, 2018.

Lifted aromatics of tangerine, orange peel, and white peach. 100% Meunier, base wines from 2014 and 2015. Clean and lean. Medium minus acid and length.

Pale bronze with effusive perlage and creaminess. The nose is simply gorgeous with red and green apples and almonds. Freshly toasted brioche bread with a dollop of cinnamon butter. Greenery and fresh red fruits. Stunning. I could just smell this for so long but I suppose I should taste it as well. Pure Meunier from Cuisles. Disgorged in October of 2021 with no dosage. Terrific balance and structure here, as is the norm for all Moussé champagnes. From a perpetual reserve of wines that makes such a huge difference. The depth here is atypical. Electric in the mouth. Great length. Minerality and purity on the tongue. A bit of citrus on first taste. Then the spice and fruit come in to play. Whenever I taste this I always think it’s my favorite Moussé champagne. And that’s saying a lot.

A shimmering pale bronze color in the glass. Fast paced perlage with quickly dissipating bubbles. A fully mature, complex nose with orchard fruits and orange marmalade wafting from the glass. Lifted aromatics of apples of all sorts along with sweet butter and the faintest touch of cinnamon. So interesting and it just keeps impressing as time goes by. Shaved almonds and hot bread with a bit of jasmine. I love everything Cédric Moussé puts out. One of the true Masters of Meunier in champagne. The terroir of Cuisles speaks so clearly here. Pure Pinot Meunier, disgorged in January of 2018 with no dosage. Racy, yet slightly restrained acidity and exquisite balance. As time goes on and this grows in the glass, that lack of dosage is so very appreciated and resplendent. Everything in tune here. Nice minerality and overall vitality here. The palate follows the nose closely with more butter and cinnamon and mint. Crisp citrus fruit notes and fantastic subdued strawberry. Wet chalk, moist stones, and delicious red cherries. Medium long finish that really makes you regret you don’t have more. An outstanding effort from one of my favorite producers that brings the excellence every single time.
