2019 Cote du Py By far the best Gamay Noir I have tasted in several years. Such a precise expression of Morgon. This aroma shows the perfect combination of deep and inviting cherry plum fruitiness along with the slightest brush pepperiness and subtle meaty/earthy hints. There is no funky Brett in this wine that I can find. Not squeaky clean commercial either. There is no mistaking the pedigree of this vineyard site as well as the deft hand of this legendary producer. The texture is pure pleasure, almost nil tannins (The way I like it), and major length. Woody, brushy (rotundones) are combined with perfectly ripe tree fruit and alluring minerality . For anyone confused about the distinction between Burgundy and Beaujolais this should stand as a model example. Bravo bravo bravo!!!

Too volatile, but you can certainly see the potential of a pristine bottle from the sweet berry pastille note, fine tannins, and underlying minerality if you can ignore the volatile acidity that burns right down the throat. The low-sulphur wine probably didn’t take too kindly to the long journey from France to Malaysia. However, I’m in no doubt that the suspicious puncture mark on the cork and lower-than-usual fill exacerbated the condition. The supplier likely sold me a previously Coravin-ed bottle - not cool.

The whole package - fresh, vivid, fleshy, intense, layered, long. Hums with energy. Plenty of structure to boot, this will evolve well. Flat out delicious.

Very balanced and typical Morgon. Fruit is dominated by red-white cherry. Very elegant and balance, acidity is right where it should be and so is the earthy funk, lingering in the background without stealing the scene

JJ says he gets a lot of herbs- sage, thyme, oregano. More thyme. Oxidized, dried berries, wet cedar- like sauna. And he says it’s delicious and he’s impressed. I say………my palate is tired! It takes like a classic Beaujolais to me
