Christmas lunch date at V. Mertz. Popped and poured from a half bottle. No formal notes. From the pour, this was ready to rock and faking the funk on a nasty dunk. Ripe red fruits, garrigue and pasture land. Tasty and paired well with the carbonara and kimchi bucatini.

Holy smokes. It’s been a couple of years since I last drank this traditional producer’s wine and while the winemaking style is consistent (non-interventionalist), the 2015 vintage was particularly flattering. From the pop and pour, this was bursting with character. Loads of pure, crunchy red fruit, cracked black pepper, spices, garrigue...intensely spicy actually which I’m sure comes from the fact they don’t ever de-stem. What a lovely wine and it was positively smashing with our meal. Definitely the best I’ve tried from Gour de Chaulé. Bravo!!

I usually like Rhone Valley wines, North and South, but this wine didn't hit any buttons for me. The nose was very light, even after letting it breathe for a little while, and the finish was the same. There was nothkng for me to hold on to.

YES! I love me my Gingondas, but it’s actually been a while since I tasted one that really excited me. This 2015 is absolutely popping in October 2019. Red fruit, pepper and some excellent vegetal bitterness on the back end. A little bit thin, but in a really balanced way. Surprisingly long finish. Structure is in drink-now mode. Delightful.

Dusty, cherry, leather on the nose. Pretty dense with a LOT of structure still. Straw, earth, soft red fruit, starwberrt on the palate. Could probably use a few more years in the bottle.
