I love Mas de Daumas Gassac’s whites and know a lot of people who do. I also like their reds but know many people (some of the same) who do not. They find the Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Languedoc to be not quite right. On this bottle, I think I’ve identified something I like in the reds. The Cab Sauv has some of the same taste profile of better Chilean Cab Sauv that I grew up drinking as the son of Chileans (before they served the international / Parkerized palate). Anyway, a young bottle, but enjoyable with ribeye steaks, sautéed mushrooms and sautéed spinach. It represents a field blend of 12-20 different varietals, mostly historically French, but from all the major regions. 76% Cab Sauv,, 5% Tannat, 4% Merlot, 3% Pinot Noir, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Syrah, 2% Cab Franc, plus ~4% other grapes from Italy, Georgia, Spain and France (the technical sheet identifies the Camenere as Chilean, but it is originally from France).
