GUARANTEED BEST PROVENANCE: IMPORTED BY AIR FROM ITALY AND STOCKED IN CALIFORNIA A big, full-bodied Barbaresco made in a style similar to how Vietti makes their single-vineyard Barolos. If you like Vietti Barolos, you're going to love their Masseria Barbaresco -- at less than half the price. I tasted this 2011 Masseria in Castiglione Falletto in the Fall of 2015, and was impressed with its openness even today. Bright, ripe red cherries, rich herbal notes with mint, tobacco, a touch of rose and hints of vanilla & nutmeg (this spent 6 months in French barrique).

Here I found a beautifully layered and irresistible bouquet of crushed cherry and plum, along with fresh roses, dried earth, cedar dust and a hint of mint leaf. On the palate, velvety textures flooded the senses with notes of ripe black cherry, licorice, and balsamic spices, yet somehow the Masseria remained remarkably fresh and lifted as inner floral and sweet herbal tones developed. The finish was long, structured and refined, revealing it’s fine tannins which were otherwise enveloped by the wines massive textures, as hints of dried tart cherry, peach tea, spice and a bitter twang of cedar lingered for well over a minute. What a gorgeous wine this is, showing well today yet also positioned for decades of pleasure.

Palate is rich, bristling with acidity, the fruit starting to meld with tannins... Evolving beautifully. The nose is redolent of tar, sweet red licorice and flowers
