Giuseppe Rinaldi Brunate Barolo Nebbiolo 2011
GUARANTEED BEST PROVENANCE: IMPORTED BY AIR FROM ITALY AND STOCKED IN CALIFORNIA Giuseppe, or "Citrico" (the "citric one" for his rather acerbic personality) shows off what's possible with the Brunate Cru & ultra traditional methods (no French oak here, baby). Cherry, rose & menthol on the nose, and dark cherry fruit with tobacco, cocoa and crushed gravel on the palate make this a sensory delight. Remarkably, I find Beppe's 2011 Brunate approachable now -- most likely due to the warm year. You will likely want to lay this down for a while and check back in 2018.

No formal notes . This showed really well from the off . Nice ruby garnet colour with an aromatic nose of red fruits , porcini , rose notes . On the palate really elegant and wonderfully poised with lots of red fruits , porcini and saline , tar stained finish . Polished tannins and good freshness , really long finish. Showing well now though no rush, will probably continue at this high level for a further decade .

There is always a risk with Barolo that regardless of age you open the bottle at a low point and it can be somewhat disappointing. From the first sniff it was clear this is in a great spot. Classic Barolo notes all clearly identifiable but in perfect harmony. Very impressive!
