Girolamo Russo San Lorenzo Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese - Nerello Cappuccio 2013

$47

GUARANTEED BEST PROVENANCE: IMPORTED BY AIR FROM ITALY AND STOCKED IN CALIFORNIA Accomplished musician turned Etna Rosso maestro Giuseppe Russo cultivates a few hectares of Nerello Mascalese just outside of Passopisciaro on the north slopes of Mount Etna. His single-vineyard cru San Lorenzo 2013 is extraordinary and bursts with red fruits, like strawberry, cranberry, raspberries, and a grand bouquet of violets on the nose. Pleasing grumbly dark minerals are a hallmark of Etna wines in this area. I love the long, luxurious finish.

Ripe red fruit and leather on the nose. Med minus body with good minerality. Dry, red fruit quality.

Great wine. Drinks like a lighter Pinot.

Lite för höga förväntningar kanske. Men smakar mest konserverade grönsaker. En bit under ytan går att ana lite körsbär, björnbär, fatkryddighet och en djup jordig mineral. Öppnar upp sig med luft. Ändå lite besviken.
