Cantina Bartolo Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba 2014

$33

GUARANTEED BEST PROVENANCE: DIRECTLY IMPORTED FROM ITALY BY AIR AND STOCKED IN CALIFORNIA The 2014 vintage of Maria Teresa's Dolcetto is a delight. This is flown in direct from Italy — very little of her wonderful Dolcetto ever makes it out of Italy. I had to bring some back to share with fellow Bartolo Mascarello fans. Very pretty nose reminiscent of a fist full of violets, and a juicy palate with blackberries, cherries, a touch of wild fennel — delicious and a rare treat. Beautiful label from a painting that Maria Teresa's father, Bartolo Mascarello, painted when he was in his 70's. Bottle Size:  750ml Alcohol: 13.5%

Needs time to open, but floral nose, bright red fruits and tartness in the core with great acidity.

Juicy cherry, dry dusty/rustic earth, a little spice. Beauty.

Takes the obligatory hot second in the decanter. Finds greatness in the everyday. (And what is great wine? What is this?)

With penne alla vodka at home. Good tartness. Decanted for an hour. Berries emerge after a couple hours...a.k.a. the 4th inning.
