GUARANTEED BEST PROVENANCE: IMPORTED BY AIR FROM ITALY AND STOCKED IN CALIFORNIA OMG YES, this is the uber-rare 2010 vintage that Bartolo fans and collectors have been madly after since the day it was released. Think of it as a vino unicorn. Yes, I have some, but just a bit to share. This is direct from Barolo, flown over and babied in my Napa temp-controlled warehouse. Provenance doesn't get any better than this. This wine is the benchmark of 2010 Baroli, an elegant wine with rich red cherries, serious floral notes with jasmine and violets, tobacco and mint and woody herbs.

Still embryonic, Mascarello’s 2010 Barolo (magnum) shows all the classicism it did when I first tasted it from cask many years ago. There is a feeling of crystalline purity and translucence here that is simply captivating. This is Nebbiolo and Barolo in all its glory in what has turned out to be an epic vintage for the estate. Time in the glass brings out scents of lavender, dried flowers and dark fruit, all wrapped together by huge swaths of tannin. Readers lucky enough to own the 2010 are in for a tremendous treat.
