A simply glorious aged Bordeaux Blanc, shared for my big four zero, the 2004 Pavillion Blanc by Chateau Margaux is silky, opulently textured and has insanely good poise and length. Right out of the gate you are impressed with the range of aromatics from lychee and starfruit to damp earth, wild mushroom and brandy soaked pear. Once on the attack, you are surprised by the freshness imparted in this wine that now stands at sixteen years of age. The soft mouthfeel gives this an err of elegance as the wine effortlessly glides across the mid palate with a bright beam of salinity. The captivating, exceedingly long finish produces the final crescendo. One thing is clear — this beautiful Bordeaux Blanc still has a long life ahead of it. Drink 2020-2035- 97

Lemon in colour. Appley funky (beginning of sherry) aromas. Some creaminess on the palate amongst the delicate lemon flavours and oxidative notes creeping in at 15 years of age. Certainly at the end of its drinking window From a 30 acre vineyard in Margaux planted exclusively with Sauvignon Blanc. It spends a further 7 to 8 months in barrels. Paul Pontallier felt this was the best vintage of this Cuvée to that point. In summary I wish I had consumed this wine a few years ago when it would have been a little fresher.

2004 vintage. On the downhill of fruit expression, but still opened up nicely. Lots of great memories with this wine and fun to revisit.

Much more advanced than the 96...rriper and rounder more lychee. Lovely but getting smoked by the 96.

Honeyed a fruity. Not in the best shape for being relatively young.

Another gear. Like old Riesling without the petrol but all the depth.

Wonderful Sauvignon aromas jump out of the glass, yet elegant, stylish wine with ripe citrus, a touch of honey, wax creamy, perfectly integated oak with a fresh finish that makes you want to go back for more.
