From magnum on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately I broke the cork and had to decant through cheese cloth, which I was really trying to avoid with a twelve year old Crianza. Ended up drinking beautifully and was very well received. Layered with mature red fruit, dried berries, game, tobacco, and vanilla. Maybe a kiss of bret? Acid and tannin still very much intact though the sediment is significant and after several hours the wine becomes a victim of oxygen. Have had this in the cellar for several years and caught the right large format occasion. Pop ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.

2009 vintage. Showed nice notes of dill, leather, spiced red fruits, and oak. Wouldn't want to age this too much longer but overall a pleasant bottle!

Beautiful nose. 2009 is a little thin I comparison to 2008 but still impressive restraint and fruit for a Rioja. A special wine.

Warm, rich, persistent Rioja. Vanilla and oak are balanced quite nicely. Wet earth and plums. A nice transitional wine for people who only like things from California and South America. 2009 vintage

Sweet red fruits and leather and hints of oak on nose. balanced palate medium body with good acids and liveliness and good finish. Apparently classic old school Rioja profile with many more years to go. Two more to be cellared. Just ordered the '09 Grand Reserva.

Easy to drink! Light for a Rioja, but still has a lot of flavor. Musty on the nose, but cherry and rose aftertaste. Personally, I like this at a slightly warmer temp. Would recommend keeping upright before drinking. More sediment than expected. Cheers!
