Overripe black plum and currant, a sort of bramble bringing the acid along, lavender, ash, hot earth, pepper and spice, animal (brett), and some flecks of iron throughout. Nose and front end of the palate reflect its origin from the Les Chassis plane, vintage coming through too, but it seems just a touch shy from an extraction standpoint, something that is holding it back and cuts the mid-palate impact through the finish short.

I agree with @Jonathan Wall that compared with the ‘16 vintage, this lacks a bit of refinement. It’s still better than the ‘15, and after hours slow ox it opened gorgeously, tannins softened, and had that lead pencil, blue slate thing again.

Graillot is one of my all time favorites. I bought one ‘17 to test and see how much more of the ‘17 I want to buy. And not much. It’s delicious... but the last few years seem to be evolving away from the unique Alain Graillot style I remember from years past. Still can’t get the ‘95 out of my head... it ruined me.

Really enjoying this wine. Lots of game, smoke, lavender and bacon in a nice mouth filling texture. Tannins are high but rounded enough for enjoyment now, and will likely get better with time. It’s a bit ripe which probably came at the expense of complexity and length but very good.
