Ramey Wine Cellars Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2014

$36.99$32.99

91 Points, Virgine Boone, Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is sourced from multiple sites across the appellation, including Rochioli, Mill Station and Laughlin Road, all of the vineyards relatively cool. Light and mineral-driven, the wine presents as crisp and subtle in oak, allowing for exotic fruit and floral elements to show and a richness to develop slowly toward the finish."

Had this about a year ago. After stints at Rudd, Dominus, Chalk Hill and Matanzas Creek, winemakers David Ramey and his wife, Carla began their own label in 1996. Sunshine Straw with aromas of stone and tropical fruit with sweet vanilla oak scents. On the palate apple, peach and apricot flavors, citrus zest with toasty oak. Lingering on a smooth finish ending with creamy notes. Delicious! Aged well. You can still find the 2014, so grab one, you won’t be disappointed.

Peach, pear, lime, salted caramel, toasted nuts, and hint of tropical fruits on the nose. Very crisp, almost steely. Leaner than I expected. Good balance of acidity and minerality. High alcohol level of 14.5% is well hidden. Very enjoyable.

Butter hits you first. Then some apple and spice and everything nice.

Intense flavor, but over-oaked and overmanipulated. Completely overdone.

Richly textured and ripe. Goes really nicely with rich seafood and cream sauce. This is entry level? Sign me up.
