Closed initially, a little dry and tannic with a smidgeon of va. However, with air a striking prune-plum and bramble fruit aroma builds, along with notes of dark roast coffee and smoked herbs... and this becomes more and more enjoyable. Night two and it’s downright complex. Very snappy! Lots of acid to help it age. I’m hard pressed to think of a better value Chianti.

Tasted double blind. Ruby red core, medium viscosity, clean with developing vinosity, medium plus intensity, stewed black plums, black cherry and cranberry, red flowers, underbrush, myrtle, leather, clay, European oak; On the palate, dry, medium plus body, high acid and high tannin. Red and black fruit with cranberries. Savory underbrush and conditioned leather. This is killer, easily the best vintage of Monsanto CCR I’ve ever had.

What a wine, and an incredible value. Organic Chianti Classico is hard to come by and at $20 I can't imagine it gets much better than this. It's got all the hallmarks - snappy red cherry fruit, sweet florals, dusty earth, musky leather, herbs, all layered in an incredible complete package. Beautiful texture, with high acid and generous tannin, somehow this drinks well today but shows it can surely go for a couple decades. I'm looking forward to seeing where this ends up.

Perfect pairing last night with patio pizza. Medium body that could hold its own with sausage, but not too overpowering for shrimp also on pizza. Good standby to have for pizza night. Plenty of life left in this one.

Decanted for two hours. This time around was pleasant with soft tannins.

Nice bouquet and color. Still very tannic. Better on the second night.
