Pinkus Brewery was founded in the German city of Munster in 1816. Since then there have been 150 breweries in Munster: today, only Pinkus remains, with the fifth and sixth generation of the founding family still at the helm. Pinkus became the first all-organic brewery of the modern era in the 1980s when they began to brew only with organic barley malt and hops. Golden pilsner with bright, elegant bitterness, was developed in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia in the mid-19th century and German brewers began to brew "pils" very soon after. Pinkus Ur Pils, brewed with organic malt and hops, has another connection to the beers of 150 years ago: no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used to produce the malt and hops. "Ur" translates roughly from German to "original." Certified Organic by the USDA-accredited ABCERT GmbH. Pinkus Organic Ur-Pils is pale gold in color; light to medium in body; dry and well-balanced; clean hop and malt character.
