Old inexpensive wines, episode two. 2005!was a Ber good vintage in California. How does this translate down to the industrial level? Hazy ruby purple trending toward garnet. Big bosomy nose leaps from the bottle with boysenberry, cassis, marzipan. Echoed on the medium-bodied palate with a hint of spice cake mid-palate. Medium acidity. Just a bare hint of tannin on the finish. Fruit forward, fun, and fully drinkable, but didn’t really stand the test of time. Still, it’s a good quaff with a fast-food burger and fries. And so it shall be.

Generous upon opening, but dries down nicely after some air. Potent blackberry and anise flavors. The finish is dry and structured with cedar notes. Uncharacteristic of low end, crowed pleasing California Cabernet, and a bargain at $12.

Opened the 2008. Rich and full bodied. Nice aroma which holds up well as it breaths. Berry and oak with an earthy finish. Smooth on the tongue.

I was really looking forward to this one, but was utterly disappointed. Almost bitter tasting and lacking character. Like a watered down version of what I had expected... Maybe just not a good bottle. Will give it another chance.
