We had the pleasure of visiting Whitcraft winery and got to hang with Chris P. Bacon (Crispy Bacon). Off the beaten path of Santa Barbara’s urban trail; these guys are committed to a non-interventionist approach to their wines. Chris was extremely knowledgeable and kind enough to show us a bit of what he was working on before we showed up. COLOR: Garnet core fading to a maroon edge with tones of purple & burgundy. NOSE: Excellent!!! Fresh whole cluster stem, green bell pepper & rich topsoil stand above fainter notes of young blackberry & baking chocolate. TASTE: You can definitely tell this a whole cluster wine exhibiting the terrior of Matt’s Vineyard, aka Clover Creek throughout the palate . Black cherry, organic sour cherry, juicy blueberry, green leaf veggies, white pepper, leather & lilac. FEEL: Silky smooth

A softer Syrah from Central Coast. Enough cracked pepper there without dominating the nose. Really refreshing acidity, at just under 13% alcohol. Crushable and interesting simultaneously.
