#AgedWineTuesday Golden in color, very pretty. Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and small bubbles. Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Showing lots of yeast and bread notes with citrus, limes, green apples, Mediterranean spices, herbs, white pepper and minerals. Tasting this aged vintage champagnes is always a great experience. I really liked the nose once it opened up. Good right out of the bottle and better after 30 minutes of airtime, and I liked it better once it warmed up a bit. Thank you John for sharing this with me. Paired very well with the caviar and the charcuterie board. 12% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $450.

Part of the Wine Nerd Herd shenanigans which was hosted by no one other than @Eric LaMasters in Iwoa. This all Magnum pairing started with the 98 Krug. Drinking extremely well for its age and has me believing this has many years ahead of it. Fresh French bread, green apple, notes of toasted hazelnuts on the nose. Appeared to be a bit backward on first sip yet with air showed light bubbles and candied lemon and baked apple. Long persistent finish that paired well with oysters and shrimp cocktail.

This gem from @Shawn R kicked off mag night at our bi-annual gathering, this time a home game for @Eric LaMasters in Des Moines, IA. I’d say it was among my top 5 wines of the week. Less yeast/hazelnut overtones than I’m used to (and enjoy) from Krug. This bottle was a cleaner less weighty generous expression of Champagne. Lots of depth, focus, precision and energy. Man oh man this was astoundingly good.

Humming along very nicely right now. Precise and pure but enough juiciness to give it substance.
