The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully coy in the glass, slowly opening with a delicate blend of smoked meats, cedar dust, crushed rocks and dried strawberries. It’s soft and enveloping with silky textures, a sweet and sour interplay of mineral-tinged berries and balsamic spice hints. Fine tannins mount toward the close. This finishes youthfully tense and grippy with a bump of residual acidity to balance its saturation of primary components. The 2016 is in an odd and slightly dormant place in its evolution. (Eric Guido, Vinous, December 2023)

Hard to predict at this point how awesome this will get, but with an hr+ in the decanter it was sublime. Rich in scorched earth and dark red fruit, brooding layers of stony cocoa and espresso roast. Tight tannins frame the waves coming at you, this will get way better with time.

Well strung like a tight tennis racket. Woody on the nose, strawberry rhubarb with a dry finish.

Another Brunello producer I have not tried before - quite nice. Quite restrained - apparently the Brunello comes from higher altitudes which shows. It’s not quite Ragnaie in terms of the high altitude character but it’s a nice wine for sure. Perfect with some local Cinta pork.

2022/2/20. Very good, if not quite as effusive as the last bottle

2022/1/21 with Japanese style steak (rump and picanha with negi ponzu), furofuki daikon, etc. This was quite layered and complex, with underbrush and woodsy red berries, iron, butter orange, etc. Obviously very young but quite enjoyable, with a broad swath of fruit, acid and tannin.

Tawny coloration. Somewhat translucent. On the nose, amorena cherry, florals, leather and balsamic. On the palate, amorena cherry, blackberry, minerals, vanilla, florals. Longish finish. Nicely balanced tannins.
