Finally had a Dunn that was ready to drink! Pasilla, black currant, forest floor, black trumpet mushroom.

12/24/20 (Out of Magmun) Immense and dark ruby-black in color the nose offers mature currant coffee sage and dusty berry and anise flavors that have some youthful nuances. Complex and concentrated it's well-focused and appealing...... A perfect score.

Unfortunately, this is marginally diminished by threshold level corkiness, massive mountain fruit peaks out and one can taste all the elements, but damn the cork subtly suppressing this wine’s clear (otherwise) greatness!! I have had at least a 10% failure rate among wines from the 1980s from my cellar vis-a-vis less than pristine corks, which is maddening for someone like me who buys on release and cellars, this is a 96-97 point wine with a pristine cork (and I just did a small second pour to verify). Sad, very sad!!

This was much more similar in quality and relative youthfulness to the 1984 Berlinger PR Cab recently posted than the 1982 Dunn HM from the same dinner, great depth and complexity, just a tad of chalky tannins, but still outstanding!!

Wow...this bottle showed really well. Decanted for a couple hours. Explosive nose and long integrated finish. My best Dunn experience to date...this must have been an absolute beast in its first 20 years.

Took a couple hours for the earthy, damp nose to open but when it did...awesome wine. Graphite, cassis, beautiful finish. Could still live longer.
