2015 vintage. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. What a glorious wine! Intensely perfumed with blackcurrant, cedarwood and subtle spices. Amazingly elegant and profound, with a powerful but very refined tannic structure, incredible purity and freshness, perfectly integrated wood and a knockout extremely long finish. Wow!

One of the stars of the vintage, the 2015 Domaine de Chevalier has turned out even better than I expected. Bright floral notes give striking aromatic lift to the rich, sumptuous fruit. A marvelously complete wine, the 2015 is racy and silky on the palate, yet also has tremendous freshness. Bright red cherry, blood orange, white pepper, spice and dried flowers build into the super-expressive finish. The 2015 has been nothing less than stunning the three times I have tasted it so far. This is a tremendous showing from proprietor Olivier Bernard and his team. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Tasted three times. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018)

Dark cherries, raspberries. The fruit is well grown. There is already good integration of fruit, earth and wood.

Placed 2nd in small scale Pessac-Léognan tasting behind the 2010. This had a caramel nose, like caramel corn. Amazing.

2015 vintage. This is the red. Smoke, dill, plum, cassis and grilled beef in the nose. Medium-medium heavy body (which means BIG for GPL’s). Silken/velvety finish with a splash of beginning of the ceremony ayahuasca potion in the back palate (think a heady mix of espresso and grape cough syrup). Once past that, the closing is a little shorter than expected shop hours. In a bit of a transition moment currently. Still, a benchmark for the GPL region tho

Critic driven triple 97pt scores. While still a baby, showing great. Two+hour decant left a massive nose of red berries. Full and rich, red and black cherry drive the palate. Some minerality and tight tannins will drive a long cellaring. I’ll wait for 3-5 years before coming back.

#annualclarettasting
