A massive, hedonistic monster of a wine, the 2016 ‘Patrimony’ Cabernet Sauvignon performs beautifully at the four year mark with a dense core of dark fruits with chocolate and black tea undertones. This spent a significant time in new French wood (30 months) which has created a very plush mouthfeel and err of decadence. Not for the weary, enjoy now with a very long decant, as this will go for another fifteen plus years.

I’m a Napa wine snob. This makes me reconsider my snobbery. I’ll be buying more.

Well balanced between tart and sweet fruit as the vintage would suggest. Let this one warm up as I saw a bigger than usual difference between low 60s and high 60s in serving temp.

Daou is producing some many good wines in Paso. I wasn’t keen on opening a ‘16 but I needed to try one to determine my aging strategy for the remaining bottles. This is a pop n’ pour! So much balance and harmony for such a young wine. If I can keep my hands off if them, they will stay in the cellar for decades. The high end wines coming from Daou are amazing ( Patrimony, Soul of a Lion, Patrimony Des Lions etc).
