Delicious high-toned dark-cherry Chianti Classico with lower oak influence than most, and fewer rustic notes. This producer is on top of their game. Delicious with food. For those who like Nebbiolo, this a M+ tannin (and darker fruit) version of your favorite Barolo. $30 at Costco, great QPR.

The 2015 Fontodi Chianti Classico is an over-performer in every possible way, showing masses of black cherry and raspberry with dusty minerals, hints of cedar and new leather. There’s a cool-toned precision beneath it’s warm vintage fruit, with grippy tannins which quickly firm up the experience, while zesty acids tug at the cheeks. A minute later and I can still feel it’s youthful poise, along with lingering tart berries and hints of spice. #fontodi #chianticlassico #sangiovese #tuscanwine

Red and black fruit, sage, thyme, rosemary, cocoa, underbrush, blood, iron. Serious sophistication on the palate—seamless structure and an herbal quality, deeply savory, almost like black tea. Oak worked in flawlessly. More grace than power. Mint, purple flowers

I love the ripe richness here. Mouth-filling with cooked and macerated black cherries and plums, perhaps something a bit blue fruited too, all wound up with leathery, warm spices, lemon zinger tea, and savory brett. Underneath menthol, crushed flowers, herbs and forest notes add dimension along with black pepper. Rather ample on the mid-palate, the acidity and pronounced dust minerality still bring it all back to Chianti Classico for me. On a side, I think cooperage selection is absolutely on point, very well made on that front, great integration of tannin and barrel character, almost melting into the wine.

Lovely CC. Nice black cherry, earthy, goes great with all the ways we are eating tomatoes from the garden.
