Opened a few fun bottles to celebrate my birthday this past weekend. Cheers to 31! I enjoyed a bottle a few weeks back, so notes are the same. A battle between chalk, limestone and stone fruits with toast, nougat and marzipan. I call this an oxidative style champagne. Very creamy and rich mousse. Honestly, I think this is best enjoyed in the near future. Extremely good now.

I just love this style that this house is known for. A battle between chalk, limestone and stone fruits with toast, nougat and marzipan. I call this an oxidative style champagne. Very creamy and rich mousse. Honestly, I think this is best enjoyed in the near future. Extremely good now...makes me wonder, for half the price, I think NV Charles Heidsieck is pretty close

Happy National Champagne Day in France. My wife tells me I would give up my US status for French as I love & drink more French wines than any other, which is true. So, why not a little 2007 Bollinger La Grande Année? On the nose; perfectly ripe red & green apple, pineapple, lemon, lime, quince, touch of ginger, caramel, cream soda, grapefruit with pith, sea spray, beautiful soft chalkiness, some white peach, spring flowers, jasmine and yellow lilies. The body is rich, creamy, beautiful and heavenly over the palate. The micro bubbles are tiny and delicate. Length is just how one would like it. The acidity is near perfect. perfectly ripe red & green apple, pineapple, lemon, lime, some white peach, quince, touch of ginger, caramel, cream soda, grapefruit with pith, green melon, guava, sea spray, beautiful soft chalkiness, deep palate penetrating grey volcanic minerals, spring flowers, jasmine and yellow lilies. Photos of; House of Bollinger, their oak barrel room; which I believe this cuvee sees. Slumbering cellar bottles and one of their Grand Cru Vineyards.

This champagne continues being my favorite over any champagne, including Krug, DPG, Chrystal. This champagne is really special. 2007 is not as great as 2004 and 2005 but I think I should give it another year or 2 to this bottles.

This was from class last Thursday. It was heaviest of the beverages that day. More of a charred toast character. But I like things dark. Beyond toast there are pears, lime zest, and big bold stones and yet all this weaves together seamlessly. I also need more.

Bollinger's 2007 Brut La Grande Année is quite pretty. Elegant, restrained and understated in style, the 2007 is one of the more delicate young Grande Années I can remember tasting. Mid-weight structure and silky texture only reinforce that impression. Lemon oil, red berry, dried flowers and chamomile open up nicely, but it is the wine's overall feel that stands out most. Best of all, the 2007 will drink well with no cellaring. Disgorged: September 2016. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2017)

A preview of the almost released 2007 with Dennis Bruner in San Francisco. A return to the more mineral style of the 2004, but still loaded with lovely brioche and dark cherry fruit.
