Medium purplish red. Dark spices on the nose, bitter cocoa, oak barrel, some animal nuances, light cherries, a touch smoky and crushed gravel. Tight on the tannins (6.5/10) not yet rounded. Complex palate yet tight as well with notes of raw twigs, bramble berries, anise, spices, dried cherries, a touch of alcohol and pepper. Long finish with definite potential to improve once the palate rounds out. Drink till 2024.

You take one down, pass it around, ninety-six bottles of Zin...

Best QPR? Usually Cali Zin is just too jammy and overripe, but this has a beautiful backbone of acidity. I could drink this on a hot summer day!

This is a wine to be enjoyed any way you like. For example, on a Friday night after a busy week when you only have energy for pizza in front of the TV. A very approachable old vine Zin sourced from various California regions. It will make you feel human again. And it pairs well with pizza.

Coffee, cherry fruit roll up, and raisin on the nose. Slightly vegetal palate.

For the Wine Spectator readers: a ripe, deeply fruity, spicy nose and dark, plush, concentrated palate, and for the cool kids: a modicum of restraint. Not quite intellectually stimulating, but this walks the line well, especially for a $20 California-appellated Zinfandel. Also: totally plausible that as the primary fruit recedes, this could become a serious wine; it's got the guts. Enjoyed with shaking beef
