The 2011 Pinot Noir Spring Ridge Vineyard Three Blocks is a blend of the three Pinots the Varners make under the Neely label... Dark red cherry, plum, cinnamon, leather and mint meld together in a deep, resonant Pinot bursting at the seams with personality. Today, the Three Blocks seems most marked by the Upper Picnic Block. Most Santa Cruz pinots I've had are light in color but pack a surprising amount of flavor as this one is. Pinot fruit is a bit more austere/held back; "underbrush" comes to mind. Enjoyable.
