Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2013

A wine with terrific texture and balance. Very polished tannins that are etheral and harmonious. Full-bodied, yet fresh, this is about combining elegance with power. It's so Latour in style. Excellent depth... James Suckling

Modern, not a fan as it seems soulless...needs more Italian character to isolate more of an identity.

Barrel toast, camphor, crushed blackberries, lavender, and campfire on the nose. A bit tight, even after a few hours in the decanter. Finishes with lots of grip, sweet spice, and some incense. Needs time in bottle.

We say goodbye to Switzerland - loved it's fantastic scenery and peaceful people, but the wine scene was a challenge. Moving on to Tuscany...now we're talking! This Oreno is well known but in a great vintage like '13 it was better than I remembered. Amazingly pure but rich fruit notes of plum, dark cherry, and maybe a bit of rhubarb. Leather in spades with some chocolate. Silky tannins and a beautifully long finish. 50% Merlot, with Cab and PV filling out the blend. A super-duper Tuscan and start to a great wine week.

Always a polished classy wine, with no Tuscan rough edges, for better or worse
