Masseto Toscana Merlot 2010
The 2010 Masseto is truly monumental, leaving you breathless and wordless all at once. Once you sip the wine, it takes a few minutes before you grasp the enormity of its beauty and potential. You almost have to wonder how enologist Axel Heinz could conceive of a wine this beautiful - and how did he execute it? I could wax poetic for hours: Dark cherry, chocolate, baking spice and tobacco smoke lift off the bouquet in thin veils and magical puffs. The quality of the aromas is exceptional, but again, the seamless integration is what makes Masseto a protagonist of Italian wine. The Ornellaia rep brought this from her cellar and it was the clear star of the night. Much more open for business than I would have expected. Rich, extracted wine with impressive length. Sage, fennel, expresso notes. Will likely shut down at some point but really sexy right now.

Impenetrabile color rubino, quasi sangue. Intenso al naso con sentori verdi subito poi frutta a bacca rossa : more , prugne secche , ciliegie morello frutto maturo e composta. Tabacco dolce , porcino fresco. L'entrata in bocca si avvia morbida , appagante, poi un'ondata di freschezza che equilibra il sorso, tannino ben presente ma non acerbo, stuzzica e promette lungo tempo. Chiusura lunga e preziosa. Vorresti non finisse mai. Anche se giovane se ne apprezza lo spessore e la meritata fama.
